If your visibility review covers more than one assistant, you need to see where their recommendations differ for the same buyer question. Track the same prompts in Gemini and ChatGPT to compare which brands and sources each provider names. Differences can reveal visibility gaps that tracking one provider would miss.
Why a second provider earns its cost
Each provider draws on different material and resolves a question differently. A brand can be well established in one and absent from another for the same question.
Tracking one provider gives you a number. Tracking two gives you a comparison, and the comparison is where the diagnosis is.
The extra cost is straightforward: adding a provider to an item multiplies its calls by that provider. A hundred prompts twice a week is 200 calls on one provider and 400 on two.
What each pattern suggests
Run the same prompts across providers and four patterns appear. Each implies different work.
| Pattern | Reasonable reading | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Present in all providers | Established for this question across the material each draws on | Watch for change; spend effort elsewhere |
| Absent from all | The market's material does not associate you with this question | Content and placement work, starting from the cited sources |
| Present in one, absent in another | The sources each provider relies on differ, and you appear in one set | Compare the cited sources of each and find what the second set uses that you are missing from |
| Described differently in each | Different sources carry different versions of your description | Find the out-of-date source and get it corrected |
The third row is the most useful and only exists if you track more than one provider. It converts a vague "improve visibility" objective into a specific list of pages to appear on.
Keeping the comparison fair
Three conditions, or the comparison measures your setup rather than your standing.
Identical prompt wording across providers. A prompt is sent word for word. If the wording differs, you are comparing answers to two questions.
The same collection days. Comparing a provider checked daily with one checked weekly compares different sample sizes, and the more frequently sampled one will show more variation simply because it was observed more often.
Enough runs before concluding. Answers vary between runs within a single provider. A difference visible in one run of each is not evidence of a difference between providers.
Reading the cited sources side by side
This is the most productive half hour available in cross-provider tracking.
Take a question where you appear in one provider and not the other. List the sources each cites. The lists usually overlap partially, and the pages appearing only in the provider where you are absent are the material you are missing from.
For each such page, three checks: whether you appear on it at all, whether what it says about you is current, and whether it accepts submissions, updates or corrections. That produces a short outreach list derived from evidence rather than from a general instruction to build authority.
Deciding how many providers to run
Prompts go to three: ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode. Claude and Perplexity are not available.
Running all three on everything is the simple choice and not always the right one. Run the core prompt set across all three providers for comparison. Use one provider for a wider set when you mainly need to check whether your brand appears.
The arithmetic decides it: providers multiplied by days multiplied by prompts, against your weekly allowance.
What the comparison cannot tell you
It cannot tell you why the providers differ. The selection mechanisms are not observable from outside, and any explanation of them is inference.
It also cannot tell you which provider matters more for your buyers. That depends on what they use, which is a question for your own research rather than for a tracking report.
When comparing providers, keep the buyer question consistent and inspect the answers. Use the differences to decide which sources or recommendations need closer investigation.
