If you manage organic search performance, you need a dated record of the results for searches relevant to your business. Track keywords in Google and Bing on the days you choose. The returned results are retained, so you can inspect which sites and pages ranked across collection dates rather than only seeing a number.
Set up the keyword
Add keywords one per line and select the providers. The form excludes quotation marks and colons, which are search operators rather than keywords.
Assign keywords to the relevant campaigns. They remain account-wide tracked items, so assigning one to a second campaign does not require another collection, and the brand and competitor labels are applied when each report is drawn.
Archive an item to stop its schedule while keeping its history.
What one Google request returns
A single Google request returns the organic results, the ads and the AI Overview together. Bing returns organic results and ads.
That has a useful consequence: AI Overview coverage costs no additional call and applies across your whole keyword set rather than to a separately chosen subset.
How usage is counted
One credit is one call: one keyword, on one provider, on one day.
Five hundred keywords on both providers, five days a week, is 5,000 credits. The same five hundred checked twice a week is 2,000. Keywords and prompts draw on the same weekly allowance.
Daily collection is worth buying for keywords that inform a decision daily. For most reporting, twice a week produces the same conclusions at a fraction of the usage.
Inspect which page changed, and why
Open Keyword History to compare collected positions across dates. Then identify which page ranked and check whether it answers the intended search.
This distinction matters more than the position. A different page of yours appearing for the same keyword is a different problem from the intended page simply moving, and the two need different responses. The first usually means the search intent shifted or another page now matches it better; the second is an ordinary competitive movement.
Reading the organic position beside the AI Overview
Because both measurements arrive together, a keyword can rank without being cited in the summary, or be cited without ranking. The case worth looking for is the first: competitive for the query, and the summary drew on other sources. AI Overview tracking sets out the four states and what each one asks you to do.
Keep collection conditions consistent
Use the same keyword, the same provider and comparable dates when discussing a change. Positions vary by location, device and personalization, so a position is always a position under conditions.
Keep four things separate in client reporting: AI mentions, organic positions, website visits and purchases. They measure different events, and no position reported here establishes traffic.
During your search review, identify the changed page and result type so the follow-up addresses the observed difference.
