If you choose tools for brand research, you need to specify whether the task concerns audience conversations or published coverage and possible placements. Talkwalker sells consumer intelligence: analysis of what audiences say, across social platforms and many languages and countries. OppAlerts indexes published news, blog, podcast and web pages, and turns brand coverage into link prospects, contacts and content decisions.
OppAlerts publishes this comparison. Talkwalker covers many more languages and reads social platforms; OppAlerts does neither.
For an international brand studying conversation, Talkwalker covers ground OppAlerts does not attempt.
Where Talkwalker is stronger
Its pricing page states coverage of 150 million data sources, more than 30 social platforms, 187 languages and 196 countries. Those are Talkwalker's own figures, and source counts are not defined the same way between vendors. They should not be set against another vendor's number as though the units matched. Taken on their own terms, they describe a product built for breadth.
Two consequences matter for a buyer.
Language and country coverage is the first. If your brand is discussed in a dozen languages and you need that analyzed rather than merely collected, Talkwalker does that work and OppAlerts does not. No section below changes this.
Social platform coverage is the second. Talkwalker reads social platforms. OppAlerts does not read social platforms at all, and no OppAlerts report should be presented as social listening.
Talkwalker also includes unlimited users on every Lumen plan, so a large analyst team costs no more than a small one. OppAlerts is likewise not sold by the seat, so neither product charges more for a larger team.
The stored copy of its pricing page did not render amounts, so expect a quote rather than a list price.
What OppAlerts reads instead
OppAlerts monitors published pages. Its News Index covers indexed news, blog and podcast content. Its Prospect Index covers stored web pages. Brand Mentions draws on search results, the Prospect Index and the News Index.
It also tracks AI answers on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode, and keyword positions on Google and Bing. One Google request returns the organic results, the ads and the AI Overview together. Talkwalker's pricing page does not describe AI answer tracking or keyword rank tracking.
What each product is for
The clearest way to separate them is by the question each answers after a brand is mentioned.
Talkwalker answers what the mention means: who said it, in which market and language, at what volume, and how that has changed. That is analysis of a conversation.
OppAlerts answers what to do about the page. Brand Unlinked Mentions lists pages that name the business without an observed link to it. Site Info returns the stored public contact pages, emails, phone numbers and social profiles for that site. Backlinks DB: Link Gap lists sites linking to competitors you enter and not to you. The Prospect Index searches by meaning as well as keyword across opportunity types including guest contribution pages, resource lists, expert roundups, podcasts, directories and award programs. PageRank history reports monthly link-graph measurements for a host and its domain. Content Optimizer compares a draft with up to three categories you select and lists the phrases it does not contain.
The campaign names the brands and competitors once, so coverage found in the News Index is already labelled against the market you defined.
Choosing between them
Choose Talkwalker when the brand is discussed across many markets and languages, when social platforms are the sources that matter, or when a research team needs consumer analysis rather than a list of pages.
Choose OppAlerts when the market is English-language and published pages are the sources that matter, and when coverage is the start of an outreach task rather than an input to consumer analysis.
A large brand may run both without duplication, because they overlap only on the fact that a page or post named the brand.
Evaluate the sources and analysis against a typical assignment. Choose the service that provides the evidence your team needs for that decision.
