If you are comparing these products for marketing work, identify the recurring tasks and outputs your team needs from its subscription. Semrush sells conventional SEO and AI search visibility in one subscription: keyword rank tracking, site audits, competitor analysis, content optimization and prompt tracking. Its features overlap with OppAlerts more than those of any other product in this comparison.
OppAlerts publishes this comparison. Semrush is the widest overlap of any product compared on this site, and it audits websites where OppAlerts does not.
The parts that do not overlap are specific. Semrush audits your website; OppAlerts does not. OppAlerts searches a prospect index by opportunity type, stores website contact details, indexes news, blogs and podcasts, and keeps monthly PageRank history; nothing on the Semrush pricing page describes those.

Semrush meters prompts and keywords as a daily entitlement. Fifty prompts a day on Starter means fifty each day, and an unused day does not carry forward.
OppAlerts meters a weekly call allowance instead, where one call is one tracked prompt or keyword, on one provider, on one day, and you tick which days each item needs fresh data. That difference decides which product is cheaper for a given workload, and it does not go in the same direction for every buyer.
A team that wants everything checked every day is well served by a daily entitlement, because the allowance renews whether or not the previous day was quiet. A team tracking a large prompt set twice a week is buying five unused days out of seven under that model. Work out which describes your reporting before comparing anything else.
Where Semrush is stronger
- Site Audit and AI-ready Site Audit. OppAlerts does not audit websites, and the site audit FAQ says so directly. If technical SEO is part of the job, Semrush covers it and OppAlerts does not.
- Keyword research depth, competitor analysis tools, keyword cannibalization analysis, and multi-location and device tracking on higher plans.
- Historical SEO data from Pro+ up.
- MCP from Starter and API data integration at Advanced. Both products expose an MCP server. Semrush also sells a data integration; the OppAlerts API is read-only and publishes no request allowance.
- AI visibility reports for any domain, at 300 a day, which lets you research a brand you have not configured.
- Scale of keyword tracking. 5,000 keywords daily on Advanced is a large conventional rank tracking program in one product.
Where OppAlerts covers different work
The Semrush pricing page does not describe an opportunity-type prospect index, stored website contact details, a news, blog and podcast index, or PageRank history. Those are the four reports that change what an OppAlerts campaign can do after the measurement is finished.
- Prospect Index searched by meaning as well as by keyword, filtered to opportunity types: guest contribution pages, resource lists, expert roundups, podcasts, industry directories, award programs and speaking submissions. This answers where a brand could appear, rather than how it currently ranks.
- Site Info, returning the stored public contact pages, emails, phone numbers and social profiles for a site, so the prospect can be contacted without a separate contact database.
- News Index over indexed news, blog and podcast content, searched by keyword or by meaning for brand and competitor coverage.
- PageRank history, with monthly link-graph measurements for a host, its www variant and its domain, so a prospect's history is visible rather than only its current value.
- Brand Unlinked Mentions, listing pages that name the business without an observed link to it, which is where a link request starts.
Content optimization exists in both products and works differently. Semrush lists content optimization from Pro+. OppAlerts Content Optimizer compares a draft you paste in with up to three categories you select, one from each taxonomy. It reports the nearest categories and the phrases the draft does not contain. It reads up to 8,192 bytes, so a long article is reviewed in sections whose results do not combine into one score. Compare the two directly if content scoring is the deciding feature, because a taxonomy similarity measurement and a keyword-coverage grade answer different questions.
The campaign is the structural difference
Semrush organizes work around projects attached to a website. OppAlerts organizes around a campaign that holds the business, its brands, its competitors and three buyer personas, each with a written description. Locking a campaign requires that context before any research runs.
The practical consequence is that a prospect search, a mention report, a tracked prompt and a content check all return results selected by the same market definition. Each report uses that definition without separate configuration. For an agency running many clients, that definition is created once per client.
Choosing between them
Choose Semrush when technical site auditing is part of the job, when conventional keyword research and rank tracking at scale are the main purchase, when you want everything refreshed daily, or when MCP access matters now.
Choose OppAlerts when AI prompts and keyword positions are inputs to placement work rather than the deliverable, and when the reports have to end in named publishers and named pages.
If you keep both, the duplicated spending is keyword tracking and prompt tracking, since both products sell them. Price that overlap on a matched workload before deciding whether the second subscription earns its place.
Use a representative campaign to compare the required research and reporting. Check the overlap with your existing subscriptions to identify the work an additional product would cover.
