If you are evaluating these products for brand work, define whether the task is social research, publishing or investigating published coverage. These products serve different tasks. Brandwatch is a social research and social publishing suite. OppAlerts indexes published pages and turns brand coverage into link and outreach work. The only shared ground is that both can tell you a brand was mentioned somewhere.
OppAlerts publishes this comparison. It is short because the overlap between the two products is thin.
What Brandwatch sells
Brandwatch is organized in three lines. Consumer Intelligence serves researchers and analysts studying what audiences say. Social Media Management serves social managers and content marketers who publish and reply. Influencer Marketing serves influencer programs and the agencies running them. It describes itself as an official partner of the social networks, with unlimited channels and integrations.
No prices are published. The page requests a demo, so a cost comparison is not possible on paper and this page does not attempt one.
OppAlerts does none of those three jobs. It does not read social platforms, does not publish or reply to anything, and has no influencer measurement. A team buying Brandwatch for social research or social publishing has no reason to consider OppAlerts as a replacement.
What OppAlerts does instead
OppAlerts monitors published pages: a News Index over indexed news, blog and podcast content, and a Prospect Index over stored web pages. Brand Mentions uses search results and both indexes. It also tracks AI answers on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode and keyword positions on Google and Bing.
Its purpose is the work that follows a mention rather than the analysis of the conversation around it.
- Brand Unlinked Mentions lists pages that name the business without an observed link to it.
- Site Info returns the stored public contact pages, emails, phone numbers and social profiles for that site.
- Prospect Index searches by meaning as well as keyword, filtered by opportunity type: guest contribution pages, resource lists, expert roundups, podcasts, industry directories and award programs.
- Backlinks DB: Link Gap lists sites with observed links to competitors you enter and no observed link to you.
- PageRank history gives monthly link-graph measurements for a host and its domain.
- Content Optimizer compares a draft with up to three categories you select and lists the phrases it does not contain.
Choosing between them
Choose Brandwatch when the question is what audiences are saying on social platforms, when a team also needs to publish and respond there, or when influencer programs are part of the work.
Choose OppAlerts when the question is which published pages mention your brand and whether they linked, and when a mention is the start of an outreach task rather than a data point in a dashboard.
Most organizations that use both are using them in different departments, and neither displaces the other.
Before choosing, take a typical assignment through the relevant product. Confirm that it provides the sources and actions the team responsible for that assignment needs.
