If you prepare link outreach, you need an article where your proposed destination would serve the reader. Brand Link Gap returns indexed pages that link to a competitor and carry no observed link to any of your owned hosts. Each result identifies which competing organizations are linked from that page.
Set both sides of the comparison
The report reads Competitor and Owned Brand hosts from the campaign's Organizations tab.
Include every relevant owned host: alternate domains, regional sites, and any subdomain carrying content. If an owned host is omitted, a page that already links to it appears as a gap, and you will write to a publisher who has already linked to you.
Choose the index and the link filters
Select the Prospect Index or the News Index depending on whether you are looking for standing resources or recent coverage.
The link filters are what make this report usable. They distinguish article links from navigation and comments, and followed links from nofollow, sponsored and UGC links.
Start by restricting to article links. A competitor appearing in a site's navigation usually means a commercial relationship rather than an editorial decision, and those rows are not opportunities. Restricting to followed links narrows further, though a nofollow mention in a relevant article can still be worth pursuing for the reader it reaches.
Inspect the specific page
A page linking to several competitors may be a comparison, a directory, or a list of available suppliers. Each has different inclusion conditions and each needs a different approach.
Read those conditions before deciding your business belongs there. A supplier list may require an existing commercial relationship. A comparison article may only cover products the author has used. A directory may require membership.
If your business meets the inclusion conditions, explain what your product adds to the comparison and why that difference helps the publication's readers.
Verify before requesting a change
The result is a page-level observation from stored outbound links. Verify the current page before contacting anyone, because a link may have been added since collection.
How this differs from Backlinks DB: Link Gap
This report returns individual pages from the News and Prospect indexes. Backlinks DB: Link Gap returns referring sites from the backlink collection.
The two answer different questions. Use this one when you want the specific page that mentions your subject and could carry a link, because you can read it and judge whether you belong on it. Use the backlink comparison when you want to understand which sites your market links to at all.
Their results differ because the collections and the comparison units differ, not because one is more complete than the other.
When qualifying a result, record the passage and your proposed link destination. Use them to explain how the link would help the article’s reader.
