Do I Need OppAlerts If I Already Use Ahrefs?

Add OppAlerts to Ahrefs only if it covers work you still need to do. Review prospect discovery, contact research and AI tracking against the tools you already pay for.

Usually yes, if you do outreach. Usually no, if you use Ahrefs mainly for backlink analysis and rank tracking. Compare the AI prompt allowance and the outreach research you need. If you already pay for Ahrefs, base the decision on a recurring task your current setup does not cover.

First: check what your plan includes for AI prompts

Ahrefs plans include tracked AI prompts, at 5 on Lite, 10 on Standard and 20 on Advanced. Those numbers are small enough that a real prompt set does not fit in them.

Tracking larger prompt sets on Ahrefs requires Brand Radar, which starts from $199 a month on top of your plan, and then a prompt package. One Ahrefs check covers one prompt on one platform in one location. Packages cost $50 for 2,500 checks, $100 for 7,000 and $250 for 25,000. Overage costs $0.010 to $0.020 a check.

So if you assumed AI tracking was included in what you already pay, it is worth checking the line item before comparing anything. Many teams discover they are choosing between adding Brand Radar and a package, or adding a different product.

Second: ask what happens after a link gap report

The products differ in how they support outreach research.

Ahrefs is strong at the parts OppAlerts does not attempt: crawl volume, multi-year link history, site auditing, keyword research depth, and an AI visibility index that reports on a brand with no setup. It also does link prospecting through Brand Radar, so opportunity discovery is not unique to OppAlerts.

What Ahrefs does not describe on its pages is what turns a gap into a contacted publisher. OppAlerts adds four things at that point:

  • Searching by opportunity type, so you can look for guest contribution pages, resource lists, expert roundups, podcasts, directories, award programs and speaking submissions rather than only for placements competitors already earned.
  • The contact route each site publishes, returned with the result, so you can contact prospects without a separate database.
  • Month-by-month link graph history, so you can tell a rising site from one that peaked three years ago before spending effort on it.
  • Coverage monitoring and content checking driven by the same campaign definition.

If your Ahrefs work ends at the report, you probably do not need a second product. If it ends with someone deciding who to email, the second half is where the time goes.

The seat question

Ahrefs includes one user and charges $40, $60 or $80 a month for each additional one, by plan. OppAlerts is not sold by the seat.

For a team of one this is irrelevant. For a team of five it is several hundred dollars a month, and it is worth putting into the comparison before deciding either way.

Where the answer is no

If backlink index depth is your requirement, this comparison does not justify adding OppAlerts. Neither index was measured, and this page makes no claim that OppAlerts holds more link data. Do not add OppAlerts if you need site auditing, which OppAlerts does not do at all. For programmatic access, both provide API and MCP access; OppAlerts is currently read-only, so Ahrefs remains the choice when write operations are required.

Before adding another subscription, work through a real outreach task with the tools you already use. Compare the remaining research with what OppAlerts provides.

Let’s discuss how we can work together.

An industry report, a custom dataset, a partnership; a couple of sentences is plenty. Every message comes straight to me, and I read all of them.

If it’s a fit, you’ll hear back quickly with next steps or a time to talk.
