OppAlerts and Profound Compared

Compare Profound and OppAlerts for AI tracking, content production and outreach research. See how crawler analytics and drafting differ from prospect searches and draft checks.

If you are responsible for AI visibility, consider what your team needs to do once it has identified an issue in the answers. Both products report where a brand appears in AI assistant answers. They then do different work with that result. Profound writes and publishes content from what it measures, and reads your server logs to see which AI crawlers fetched your pages. OppAlerts uses the same campaign to search a link prospect index, a news and blog index, and a backlink database. It also compares drafts with categories selected from a taxonomy.

OppAlerts publishes this comparison. Profound tracks a longer engine list, reads your own server logs, and writes drafts. OppAlerts does none of those.

The choice is usually decided by which of those two directions your next quarter of work runs in.

The tracking both products do

Profound tracks prompts across answer engines and reports visibility, sentiment, citations and competitor benchmarks. Its engine list names ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Copilot, Grok and DeepSeek, and its Enterprise plan says up to nine.

OppAlerts sends a tracked prompt to three providers: ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode. A tracked keyword goes to Google, which returns the organic results, the ads and the AI Overview in one request, and to Bing. Claude and Perplexity are not tracked.

Profound covers more answer engines. If your reporting has to include Perplexity or Claude, that is a reason to choose Profound, and no other section of this page changes it.

The two products also meter that collection differently, which matters more than the engine count for most buyers.

What is countedPrompts tracked, and Agents creditsOne call of one tracked item on one provider on one day

Because the OppAlerts allowance counts calls rather than prompts, you can spend it unevenly. Two hundred prompts across three providers on two days a week is 1,200 calls. Moving those same prompts to five days a week is 3,000. The same allowance buys either a wide prompt set checked twice a week or a narrow one checked daily, and you decide which without changing plan.

Profound's meter separates the two decisions: the plan fixes how many prompts you may track and how many engines they run against. Add an engine and you move up a plan.

Where Profound does work OppAlerts does not

Three of Profound's modules have no OppAlerts equivalent, and two of them concern your own website rather than the wider web.

  • Agent Analytics reads AI crawler activity from your own infrastructure, with named integrations for Cloudflare, AWS and Vercel. OppAlerts never sees your logs and cannot tell you which assistant fetched which page.
  • Agents takes a topic, a brand kit and tone guidelines and returns briefs and full drafts. Approved drafts publish to your CMS. OppAlerts does not write or publish anything.
  • Shopping reports product placement in ChatGPT Shopping. OppAlerts has no product-level retail report.

If the plan is to raise output by generating articles against measured citation gaps, Profound sells that as one workflow and OppAlerts does not sell it at all.

One caution about the credit that pays for it. Neither the Profound pricing page nor its content creation page states what a single Agents credit buys, and the plans include 100 and 400 of them a month. Ask Profound how many finished drafts those credits produce for your article length before you treat the allowance as a content quota.

Where OppAlerts does work Profound does not

Nothing on the Profound pages read describes a backlink index, a link gap report, a prospect index, website contact data, a news and blog index, or keyword rank tracking on Google and Bing. That is a scope difference rather than an omission: Profound sells answer engine optimization, and these are adjacent research jobs.

The OppAlerts campaign is what connects them. You define the business, its brands, its competitors and three buyer personas once. That definition selects results for tracking, prospect searches, mention monitoring and content scoring.

  • Backlinks DB: Link Gap compares your site with competitor sites and lists sites with observed links to them and no observed link to you.
  • Brand Unlinked Mentions lists pages that name your business without an observed link to it, which is the list a link request is written from.
  • Prospect Index and Opportunity types search stored pages by meaning as well as keyword, for guest contribution pages, resource lists, roundups, podcasts, directories and other opportunity types.
  • Site Info returns the public contact details and contact pages stored for a site, so a prospect can be researched without a separate contact database.
  • News Index searches indexed industry content for coverage that names your brand or a competitor.
  • PageRank history shows monthly link-graph measurements for a host, so a prospect's history can be inspected before you contact it.
  • Content Optimizer compares a draft you wrote with up to three categories you select, one from each taxonomy, and lists nearby categories and phrases missing from the draft.

Content Optimizer and Profound's Agents serve different tasks. Profound produces a draft. OppAlerts takes the draft you already have and reports how closely its meaning matches your intended category, then names phrases it does not contain. The editor stops at 8,192 bytes, so a long article is reviewed section by section and the sections do not combine into one score.

Choosing between them

Choose Profound when the engine list has to be long, when you want AI crawler behavior on your own site, when ChatGPT Shopping placement matters, or when generated drafts and CMS publishing are the point of buying a tool.

Choose OppAlerts when three engines are enough and the tracking has to lead somewhere: to publishers you can approach, coverage you can correct, and drafts you can fix. That combination is what replaces buying four subscriptions.

The two are not mutually exclusive, and a team already reporting from Profound has little reason to stop in order to add prospecting. What OppAlerts replaces is the row of separate research subscriptions beside it, not the answer engine report itself.

Use a visibility finding to test the next task in each product. Judge the fit by whether you need content production, website analysis or external research at that point.

Let’s discuss how we can work together.

An industry report, a custom dataset, a partnership; a couple of sentences is plenty. Every message comes straight to me, and I read all of them.

If it’s a fit, you’ll hear back quickly with next steps or a time to talk.
