OppAlerts and BuzzStream Compared

Separate prospect research from outreach relationship management. Compare OppAlerts site and contact lookups with the shared history and sending workflow in BuzzStream.

If you manage link outreach, you need to separate finding suitable sites from maintaining the conversations and relationships that follow. BuzzStream is an outreach CRM. It stores the people and sites you deal with, remembers the history, and sends and manages the email. OppAlerts finds opportunities, looks up the contact details those sites publish, and keeps no record of any relationship.

OppAlerts publishes this comparison. It has no CRM and sends no email, so for most teams the answer here is both and not either.

The clearest way to see why is to look at what each one charges for.

BuzzStream charges for the contacts you keep

Your stored contact count decides your plan. Build relationships for a few years and the archive grows whether or not you email any of it, and the plan grows with it. BuzzStream Discovery, an influencer database, supplies new contacts to add to the pile.

BuzzStream also sells ListIQ for building media lists, priced on its own page.

OppAlerts looks contacts up and remembers nothing

Site Info returns what a website publishes about itself: contact pages, email addresses, phone numbers and social profiles, as stored when the site was collected. You look a site up when you need it.

No contact list to fill. No notes on a person, no owner assignment, no history of previous conversations, and no allowance to outgrow. Also no sending, no sequences, no reply tracking, and no check that an address is current or will accept mail.

These are not two versions of the same product at different prices. BuzzStream is a system of record for relationships. Site Info is a lookup against pages already collected from the open web. If you need to remember who said no last spring, you need the CRM.

Where the prospecting differs

Both find prospects. The search works differently.

BuzzStream charges for prospecting searches at 30, 250 and 1,000 a month, with Discovery results capped per search on the entry plan and uncapped above it.

OppAlerts searches its Prospect Index by meaning as well as by keyword, filtered by opportunity type: guest contribution pages, resource lists, expert roundups, podcasts, industry directories, award programs and speaking submissions. You search for the type of placement you want, and meaning search returns relevant pages that never use your wording.

It adds two judgments a contact database cannot make. PageRank history gives monthly link-graph measurements for a host, its www variant and its domain, so you see whether a site has been gaining or losing standing before you spend anything on it. Backlinks DB: Link Gap lists sites with observed links to competitors you name and no observed link to you. The list comes from evidence and not from a directory.

Brand Unlinked Mentions is the third: pages that already mention your business and did not link. Open the current page before you contact anyone, because the link may have gone up since the page was stored.

What only OppAlerts covers

Nothing on the BuzzStream plans page describes AI answer tracking, keyword rank tracking, a news and blog index, content scoring against a taxonomy, or PageRank history.

All of that runs off the same campaign definition as the prospect work. The business, its brands, its competitors and three buyer personas, written once and applied to every report.

Choosing between them

Choose BuzzStream when you need to store and manage relationships, send and sequence outreach, and keep a shared record of who contacted whom.

Choose OppAlerts when the question is which placements to pursue at all, and you have somewhere else to send the ones that pass.

Most link building teams run both. Research and qualification here, relationships and sending there. The only step you pay for twice is generating a prospect list.

When planning the tool setup, assign research and relationship management explicitly. Check that your team can carry a qualified prospect through the outreach process.

Let’s discuss how we can work together.

An industry report, a custom dataset, a partnership; a couple of sentences is plenty. Every message comes straight to me, and I read all of them.

If it’s a fit, you’ll hear back quickly with next steps or a time to talk.
