OppAlerts for Local Service Marketers

Review US location pages and research local placements with OppAlerts. Compare city relevance, then investigate directories and sponsorships in the communities you serve.

If you market a local service, you need customers to understand where you work and whether the service meets their needs. OppAlerts is not local listings software. It does not manage a business profile, submit citations, monitor reviews or affect a map listing. If that is what you need, this is the wrong tool.

What it does is check whether your writing reads as being about the places you serve, and find places to be mentioned and linked from. Its location taxonomy covers 4,117 US cities with populations of 10,000 or more. Non-US coverage is in development without a published release date.

Check whether location pages contain distinct information

Read a location page and substitute a different city name throughout. If it still reads correctly, the page is not about that city.

Most templated location pages fail that test, and the city comparison measures it. Select the city and submit the page. If Boulder ranks below Denver, Fort Collins and Colorado Springs, the page reads as regional rather than local.

Compare two of your location pages against their own cities. Near-identical results mean they are one page with names substituted, which converts a suspicion into a measurement.

Use local details the business can substantiate

The obvious way to raise a city result is to add local detail, and the measurement cannot tell true detail from invented detail. Both move it identically.

A contractor who does not work in a neighborhood should not list it. A business with one location should not imply several. A company that has never served a suburb should not describe familiarity with it.

This matters more here than in any other content work, because the customer who arrives from that page discovers it at the point of enquiry.

Add details that help local customers: the areas served, conditions affecting the work, applicable local requirements and questions customers in that city ask.

When a location page is the wrong idea

If you have no distinct presence, work or knowledge in a city, a page about that city has nothing true to say, and no editing fixes missing substance.

The honest alternatives are one page describing the region you serve, or fewer city pages covering places where you have real work to describe. Both perform better than thirty near-identical pages.

What else is worth your time

Local sponsorship, association and directory research by opportunity type, which finds the community and trade listings that matter locally and which a competitor gap report will not suggest.

The contact route each of those publishes, so a sponsorship enquiry goes to whoever handles it.

Brand monitoring across published pages, though not review sites, so review monitoring stays elsewhere.

What the city comparison cannot do

It is not a local ranking signal. No search engine is consulted, and it says nothing about map results. It does not verify a business address or establish eligibility for a listing. And it cannot check that anything you wrote about the city is true.

When reviewing a location page, verify the service boundaries and customer conditions before using them to justify an edit.

An industry report, a custom dataset, a partnership; a couple of sentences is plenty. Every message comes straight to me, and I read all of them.
