If you research backlinks, consider whether you need detailed link analysis or a way to develop relevant outreach candidates from the results. These two products overlap in one place only: both hold backlink data. Majestic sells that data by the row and does little else. OppAlerts uses link data as one report inside a campaign that also covers prospecting, contacts, coverage monitoring, content scoring and search tracking.
OppAlerts publishes this comparison. It is the thinnest pairing in this set, because the shared ground is backlink data alone.
A buyer choosing between them is usually deciding whether they want link data itself or the work that link data supports.
What Majestic sells
Majestic meters analyzable backlinks. Its tiers are expressed in API AnalysisResUnits at 1 million, 20 million and 100 million. It separates a Fresh Index, which can be checked several times a day, from its historic index. It describes itself as suited to audit and prospecting across a small group of sites.
That is an unusually direct product. You are buying the ability to analyze a stated number of backlinks, and the tier determines that number.
Nothing on the page read describes AI answer tracking, keyword rank tracking, content scoring or news monitoring. If any of those belongs in your reporting, Majestic is not the product that supplies it, whichever tier you choose.
What OppAlerts does with link data
OppAlerts stores backlink data and exposes it through reports aimed at a decision rather than at analysis volume.
- Backlinks DB: Link Gap takes your site and competitor sites and lists sites with observed links to the competitors and no observed link to you. Open a referring page to see why it links to them, because the report gives the gap and not the reason.
- Brand Unlinked Mentions lists pages that name the business without an observed link to it. Check the current page before requesting a link; the publisher may have added one since the page was stored.
- PageRank history reports monthly link-graph measurements for a host, its www variant and its domain, so a site's trend is visible rather than only its present value.
- Site Info returns the stored public contact pages, emails, phone numbers and social profiles for a site. A prospect identified in a link report can be contacted without a separate database.
This page makes no claim about which product holds more links. No index was measured on either side, and a comparison of index sizes would need evidence that was not gathered.
What only OppAlerts covers
Beyond link data, an OppAlerts campaign holds the business, its brands, its competitors and three buyer personas, and that definition selects results in every other report:
- A prospect index searched by meaning and filtered by opportunity type.
- A news, blog and podcast index for brand and competitor coverage.
- Tracking of ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode alongside Google and Bing keyword positions, and a content optimizer that compares a draft with up to three categories you select and lists the phrases it does not contain.
None of that is work Majestic attempts, so it is a difference in product scope rather than a shortfall.
Choosing between them
Choose Majestic when analyzing large volumes of backlink data is the purchase, when a Fresh Index refreshed several times a day matters, or when you feed link rows into your own analysis through the API.
Choose OppAlerts when link data is a step toward contacting someone, and you want the site's published contact route and its monthly history beside the row rather than in two other subscriptions.
Because they share so little, running both is a normal arrangement rather than duplicated spending. For a wider view of link data products, see backlink analysis tools.
Test the link research you perform most often. Check the data and follow-up work each product supports before deciding where it fits in your process.
