Frase Alternatives for Content Research and Optimization

Compare Frase alternatives for research, drafting and AI search visibility. Find the content checks and tracking features that address the gaps in your workflow.

If you are looking beyond Frase, identify the part of content research, production or review that your current workflow needs to improve. Frase is the cheapest product in this category, from $39 a month billed yearly for 10 articles and 50 audit pages, with Content Guard monitoring 10 published pages for declining performance. Every alternative below costs more, so the reason to move is a capability or a volume limit rather than a saving.

OppAlerts publishes this page and is one of the alternatives on it. Nothing here is cheaper than Frase, including OppAlerts.

The usual reasons are the article and audit page allowances, the $29 charge for each extra seat, or a shift from optimizing for Google toward appearing in AI answers.

Surfer, when AI visibility becomes the target

Frase describes its work as scoring pages and improving their Google rankings. Surfer focuses on AI search and sells content and tracking on separate plans. Standard costs $99 a month billed yearly for 360 documents and 25 AI prompts refreshed weekly. AI Search Analytics costs $158 a month for 100 AI prompts refreshed daily, with Mention Gap, Brand Sentiments, five Brand Spaces and MCP access.

The document allowance is the headline difference. 360 documents against Frase's 10 or 40 articles a month is a different scale of content operation. If you need both Surfer lines, price them together before comparing with Frase.

Clearscope, when you want one plan for both jobs

Clearscope Essentials at $129 a month covers 50 tracked prompts, 50 pages, 20 monthly topic explorations and 20 monthly drafts. Business at $399 covers 300 tracked prompts, 300 pages, 50 explorations and 20 drafts with a dedicated account manager. Enterprise adds custom credits, crawler whitelisting and single sign-on.

The structure is the reason to look: prompts and pages arrive in one plan rather than two, and the page states no contracts with a 14-day trial. Watch the drafts allowance, which stays at 20 a month on both published plans.

SE Ranking, when writing should come with tracking

SE Ranking at $129 a month includes an AI Writer, 2,000 keywords tracked daily, 100 prompts tracked daily, 10 projects and 250,000 audit pages a month. Its $279 plan raises that to 5,000 keywords, 250 daily prompts, 30 projects and three manager seats.

For a team currently paying for Frase and a separate rank tracker, this can replace both. It is a platform rather than a content editor, so the writing tools are broader and shallower than Frase's.

Semrush or BuzzSumo, when the research half is the reason

Semrush includes content optimization from its $299 Pro+ plan, alongside 1,500 keywords and 100 prompts tracked daily, Site Audit and MCP access. It is a much larger purchase than Frase and only worth it if you use the platform.

BuzzSumo at $199 a month provides Content Analyzer for research by topic, URL or domain. Trending Feeds covers the past 24 hours. Question Analyzer finds customer questions in forum posts, including Amazon, Reddit and Quora. It does not score or write drafts.

OppAlerts, when the target is a category rather than a search term

OppAlerts does not write, and it has no equivalent to Content Guard. If drafting or performance-decline alerts are why you use Frase, it does not replace them.

Its Content Optimizer measures a draft against a different reference. Select up to three categories, each from a different taxonomy. The report shows the nearest categories, whether they include your intended category, and related phrases missing from the draft. Frase compares your page with pages performing in Google for a topic. OppAlerts compares your text with selected categories covering audiences, industries, product types and US cities.

Beyond the draft, one campaign definition provides context for each of these:

  • Tracking of ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Mode alongside Google and Bing positions.
  • A prospect index searched by meaning across opportunity types including guest contributions, resource lists, roundups, podcasts and directories.
  • Stored public contact details for those sites.
  • A news and blog index.
  • Content FAQs drawn from LLM answers and search results.
  • A link gap report and unlinked mentions, and monthly PageRank history.

It is not sold by the seat.
